Welcome to River Bend Retrievers, a small, home based training and boarding facility where we develop confident, obedient, and reliable dogs both in the field and at home. Based in southeast South Dakota, we are a dedicated team focused on high quality, relationship based training built on positive reinforcement, clarity, and consistency. Our goal is to create well rounded, trustworthy dogs through a strong foundation in both obedience and retriever work, whether for hunting or everyday life.
Our Services
Our most popular program covers obedience on and off-lead, bird work, and gunfire intro. We tailor training for upland or waterfowl hunting, then teach trained retrieves for clean delivery. It all comes together in the field with upland quartering, steadiness at the bucket, and retrieving from a dog blind.

We offer both Day School and Board and Train options to fit your schedule and your dog’s needs. Training is essential at any age, with a focus on socialization, respectful behavior, and foundational obedience. We address common issues like jumping and leash pulling while teaching essential skills like sit, down, place, recall, and leash manners for both family life and future hunting.
Our boarding program provides a calm, structured environment with limited spots to ensure each dog receives attentive, individualized care. For dogs who have completed one of our training programs, we offer optional tune up sessions during their stay to reinforce and maintain their training.
